ABBA ~ Thank You For the Music

ABBA was one of the most popular groups of the Seventies and Eighties. At one time, they were second only to car company SAAB as Sweden's highest revenue earner.

They are one of the world's best selling bands, having sold around 400 million records world wide. They still sell two to three million records a year. ABBA was also the first group from mainland Europe to enjoy consistent success in the pop charts of English-speaking countries, such as the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Republic of Ireland, South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand.

The music of ABBA has been re-arranged into the successful musical Mamma Mia! that has toured worldwide and a movie version was released in July 2008.

The Song That Started It All

ABBA ~ Waterloo

Although ABBA had released previous singles, it wasn't until 1974 when their song "Waterloo" won the Eurovision Song Contest, that they hit the charts worldwide and the phenomenon began.

Here is their live performance from the ESC of 1974, with the original UK commentary. This is "Waterloo".

1983: Under Attack ~ ABBA

At the end of 1982, ABBA made their final appearance together as a band and released two singles that met with little interest: "The Day Before You Came" and "Under Attack".

The former barely scraped into the UK Top 40 (No.32) while "Under Attack" made the Top 30 at No.26 in early 1983.

The movie that refreshed my memory about ABBA was "The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert"...a flamin' good romp! I think you should highlight it on your lens, otherwise good stuff here!
